All-island schools netball tourney in progress

The All Island Schools Milo Trophy Netball Tournament 2011 is now in
progress. The tournament organized and conducted by Sri Lanka Schools
Netball Association ( SLSNA ) is sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd for the
20th successive year.

The tournament is conducted for age Groups under 12,14,16 and 18 in
division A and B as usual. SLSNA sources stated that around 1000 schools
are competing. This year the number of venues centers for the
preliminary round has been increased by two centers adding Jaffna and
Trincomalee.
The other centers for the preliminary round matches are Colombo,
Homagama, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Matara, Nuwara Eliya, Gampaha, Badulla,
Kandy, Kalutara, Anuradhapura, Galle, Puttalam and Matale while Ampara
and Baticaloa is a joint center.

Kalubowila said that this nationwide tournament has been a platform for
rural players to enter the national scenario.
SLSNA Secretary Shiromi Kuruppu said that several school netball
players are already in the squad for world netball championship which is
a clear indication of the significance of the tournament in bringing the
talented players to the stage.
The Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala which won all four age categories
last year will no doubt strive to repeat the same performance. Other
schools are sure to go flat out to oust the reigning champions. |
