Lankans face must-win game
Third Test begins today at Rose Bowl:
The Sri Lankan cricketers will be asking the rain
gods to look benignly on them and allow the sun to shine on their
backs when they take on England in a must win Final Npower Test at
the Rose Bowl, beginning today. Every Sri Lanka game on tour has
been rain shortened and it has not helped them to try out players,
give batsmen, bowlers and fielders a long work out and even help
them plan strategy.

Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone III:
Sri Lanka makes a clean sweep
Sri Lanka’s second seed Oshada Wijemanne got off
to a fine start when he defeated the Vietnam opponent Le Quoc Khanh
in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the opening match of the Davis Cup
Asia/Oceania Zone III tournament at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association
(SLTA) courts yesterday. Local contenders won all three matches
against the Vietnam team.

Nadal, Wozniacki head Wimbledon seeds
Defending champion Rafael Nadal and women’s
world number one Caroline Wozniacki were named top seeds for next
week’s Wimbledon Championships here Wednesday. Tournament officials
mirrored the current world rankings for their top five seeds in the
men’s and women’s singles, with Nadal ahead of Novak Djokovic, Roger
Federer, Andy Murray and Sweden’s Robin Soderling.
