Suspect in alleged obstruction case remanded

Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Lanka Jayaratne yesterday remanded a suspect who is alleged to have obstructed a police officer attached to the Slave Island police station during his official duties at the court premises.

The suspect of Slave Island was remanded till June 20 pending the completion of the ongoing investigations. Senior Attorney Sarath Siriwardena, who appeared for the suspect, moving for bail said that he would advise his client to apologize, to the police officer in open court in order to settle the issue.

The Slave Island police who appeared for the prosecution told court that the suspect was under the influence of liquor at the time of his arrest in the court premises. Senior Counsel Siriwardena submitted that his client will plead guilty to the charges preferred against him once the ‘B’ report is filed before court.

After submissions by Senior Counsel Siriwardena and the Police the judge remanded the suspect till June 20 and directed the Police to submit a comprehensive report on the next date along with the JMO’s report.
