Art, abstract and expression

He moves his hand on the canvas creating different lines to make the slight dark drawing emerge. It expresses something deep, catches one's eyes and impressive mindset. His drawings are expressive and leaves something to think and analyze.

His way is unique and vast where he never frames into a certain school of art. Susil Senanayake develops his own unique way.

Having graduated from Visual and Performing Arts University Senanayake has worked hard to adopt his style in a unique way. This was even when he was an energetic young undergraduate. His creativity is not generated academically but naturally. His style of art is abstract expressionism. He basically draws land sceneries known to be a form of realistic expression.

He was a very active participant in many group exhibitions and his own first individual exhibition ended in triumphant note. His second individual exhibition will be held at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery from June 17 to 19.

Some of his previous group art exhibitions have been Expressions of Independence and Serendipity - 2009, Expressions of Independence - 2008, Nawa Kalakaruwo - 2006, Young Contemporaries - 2006, Traditional Painting Exhibition - 2006 and With the Other - 2005.

"All these exhibitions have a story. That's so old. It was a sunny day in 2006 and I was wondering around lake Diyawanna searching for a scenic location to make a painting. I got the perfect location and started my drawing, but a group of army personnel emerged and wanted to check me out. Finally I was free to do my job. But the state of my mind was changed, but it gave way to a series of distinct paintings with a new dimension."

So came the painting with dark colours, Lake Diyawanna. Even it is imagination above the average where the experience is just squeezed into the paintings.

Senanayake is an active personality in current art industry where he always tries to produce something worthy.

He is a freelance artist without being framed into one school of art and changes whenever he prefers. That quality adds extra value to his works of art. He tries his best to cultivate people's mentality through his art based on abstract expressionism.
