Former Sri Lanka and Kandy Sports Club ruggerite Indrajith
Bandaranayake is back in the island from Australia on a short holiday.
Indrajith Bandaranayake was one of the finest centres seen in the
rugby field which he played for nearly 15 years. A hard and incisive
runner known for his crash tackles which has stopped many a ruggerite in
his tracks when on the way to score a try.
Indrajith Bandaranayake is a product of Dharmaraja College when he
was introduced to the game by his college coach M. Zarook. He was also
coached by Viper Nihal Gunaratne in school.
He captained Kandy Sports Club in 1993 and was the youngest to do so
at the age of 22 and led them to win the Clifford Cup.
Kandy Sports Club in recognition of his services to Kandy's rugby
named one of pavilions as "Indrajith Bandaranayake Pavilion". He will be
the Chief Guest at this Sunday's Caltex League inter-club rugger match
between Kandy Sports Club and CH and FC to be played at Nittawela. |
