Postal voting on July 12

The Elections Department yesterday said that postal voting for the remaining 67 Local Government bodies will be held on July 12.

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya recently declared that the election for 67 Local Government bodies will be held on July 23 after the Court of Appeal declared the rejection of nomination papers for a number local government bodies null and avoid.

The Court of Appeal prevented the Elections Commissioner from holding elections for a number of Local Government bodies scheduled for March 17 after political parties filed petition against the rejection of nomination papers by the returning officers.

Elections of several Local Government authorities in the North were put off as landmines in this area were not cleared.
