Spiritual development, must for progress - PM

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said that spiritual development is mor
important than physical development for the country to move forward.

Addressing the 18th National Civilian Bravery Award at the BMICH
yesterday, the Prime Minister said all Buddhists should observe Pansil
parallel to the 2,600th Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi.
"We should also ensure the spiritual development of the people as
much as we develop the country" he said.
The 18th National Civilian Bravery Award ceremony organized by the
Foundation For Civilian Bravery was held at the BMICH yesterday.
Prime Minister Jayaratne also appreciated the services of the
Foundation For Civilian Bravery to present awards to people who
sacrificed their lives for the sake of others.
A large numbers of soldiers sacrificed their lives to save others
lives, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena said .
The Foundation for Civilian Bravery is dedicated to give public
recognition, since 1993, to acts of bravery of civilians by presenting
awards to those who risked their own lives to save or attempted to save
the lives of others. |
