The Jathika Namal Uyana Development Trust has taken measures to
launch a national programme named 'Environmental Friendly Future for
Children' according to a concept of the Trust Chairman MP Namal
Rajapaksa.
The Jathika Namal Uyana founder Ven Wanawasi Rahula Thera said the
Education Ministry Science Division will sponsor the programme.
Namal Kakulu Environmental organizations will be established in every
school under this programme, Ven Rahula Thera said, addressing a press
briefing at the Information Department. The Education Ministry will
launch this programme in schools islandwide under three stages. It will
commence in July in Hambantota district under the patronage of the
Education Minister in 12 schools. The second phase is the launch of this
programme in all national schools by establishing Namal Kakulu
environmental societies. These organizations will be established in each
school in Sri Lanka as the final step.
Ven Rahula Thera noted that it is important to make schoolchildren
aware of the importance of Jathika Namal Uyana and draw their attention
to environmental conservation.
Developing Jathika Namal Uyana as an international level field
education centre and using it for environmental education, are the main
targets of the programme. |
