The first edition of Handa radio magazine was launched early this
year with the hope of providing an aesthetic reading adventure to the
Sinhalese readers. Not only does it touch the reader’s aesthetic senses,
but it also has the capacity to broaden the thinking horizons of the
readers by providing them with great acumen and wisdom.
Comprised with melodious musical lyrics, poems and other art related
columns, the magazine hopes to add great entertainment value to your
routine reading adventures. The first edition is almost a tribute to the
great writer Ananda Samarakon, whose hundredth birth anniversary fell on
January 2011.
Commemorating his birth, the magazine carried a various number of
fascinating columns about the genesis of the Sri Lankan national anthem.
Many of the pages were filled with rhythm and music, as it carried some
of Ananda Samarakon’s timeless lyric collection with the magazine. Many
fascinating stories which revolve around the great writer were also
revealed through the magazine.
Drifting away from Ananda Samarakon, the magazine also focused on
other enlightening materials such as ‘The Evolution of Television’ by P
Walikala and ‘The Rejuvenation of Radio Medium’ by Dr Ajantha
Hapuarachchi. Providing more artistic entertainment to the reader, the
magazine also carried the Manohari musical drama by Sri Chandrathna
Manavasinghe.
