Sylvestrians have it easy
S M Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy Sports Corr
St Sylvester's College, Kandy scored their fourth win for the season
by defeating Lumbini College, Colombo by 44 points (3 goals, 4 tries, 1
penalty) to 19 (2 goals,1 try) in their Schools Under 20 Singer Shield
Division One Segment B rugby match played at the Bogambara Stadium on
Sunday. At half time the Sylvestrians led 22-12.
Perhaps it was the return of their skipper fly half Lahiru Jayatissa
who missed the last three games due to injury which pulled the team
together and inspired them to this difference.
Overall as the score line indicates the Sylvestrians did well as they
had the edge over their opponents both in the loose heads and tight
heads and their forwards had more power and thrust to penetrate their
opponents defense after which resulted in tries.
Sylvestrians Skipper Lahiru Jayatissa though playing well had the
misfortune of being sent on 'Sin fin' for a dangerous tackle. St
Sylvester's College No 8 Lasitha Attanagoda was in good form running in
4 tries while skipper and fly half Lahiru Jayatissa (2) and lock forward
Ishan Ratnayake (1) scored tries. Full back Sean Rabel (2) and fly half
Lahiru Jayatissa (1) goalled the tries.
For Lumbini College centre L M Madusanka (2 tries) and scrum half N G
A Tharatne (1 try) scored and fly half L V Nanayakkara added the extra
points to two of the tries.Priyantha Gunaratne refereed. |
