Decision to temporarily suspend pension scheme

The Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party yesterday decided to temporarily suspend the proposed private pension scheme. The party arrived at this unanimous decision when its Central Committee met at Temple Trees yesterday under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Committee unanimously held that the private pension scheme must be suspended temporarily until such time that it is presented to the employees in a more productive manner after being discussed with the trade unions and political parties.

It stressed the importance of defeating all insidious forces who try to create trouble and disrupt industrial peace in Free Trade Zones. The members of the committee also held that the factories and the rights of the Free Trade Zone workers should be protected.

They also decided to discuss this proposed pension scheme at the Government’s Parliamentary group’s meeting.
