Will Thomians come out well against Isipathana ?
Isipatana College will be looking to maintain their impressive record
this season when they take on arch rivals S. Thomas' College Mount
Lavinia in their annual inter school rugby encounter at Havelock Park
today.
Isipatana and S. Thomas' of course have figured in some of the most
fascinating contests in schools rugby during the past few years. However
this time the game could end up as a one sided encounter considering the
two teams present form.
Isipatana are enjoying a great season and are currently placed second
in the Singer inter schools Division One League Championship having
registered five impressive victories so far.
They had the better of Dharmaraja (37-15), St. Anthony's (31-3),
Science College (23-17), St. Joseph's (29-23) and Wesley (46-3). Their
only setback this year was their close 10-11 defeat at the hands of
Royal College. In contrast S. Thomas' College have really struggled to
find their rhythm and are also in danger of been demoted into the
Division Two tournament from next year. They are placed tenth in the
latest points table having notched up just a solitary win this year so
far.
Last week too they suffered a demoralizing 13-63 defeat at the hands
of St. Anthony's College at the Nittawela Stadium. Their only success
was against Dharmaraja College Kandy where they triumphed 35-24 after a
hard fought contest.
This time the Thomians are in danger of facing another huge drubbing
unless they come out with an extraordinary performance to counter attack
the powerful Isipatana three quarters.
