Murdered maid’s family gets compensation

The family of a Sri Lankan maid, who was murdered by a Saudi sponsor’s wife, received Rs 1.2 million as compensation, the Sri Lankan Embassy announced in Riyadh yesterday.

The initial post-mortem report revealed that Pospawalli Selladurai, 36, was murdered. The Police in Al-Jouf, 1,200 km from Riyadh in the Eastern part of Saudi Arabia arrested the woman, who is still in police remand and will be released shortly as soon as the paper work is done following the payment of blood money.

A senior diplomat from the Sri Lankan Embassy told the Daily News that this was an out-of-court settlement with the husband of the woman who killed the maid.
