Youth dies in bus mishap

A youth travelling on the foot board of a private bus fell and succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Balapitiya Base Hospital. The deceased was Madhushanka Wickramaratna (17) of Welikanda, Ahungalle. The driver of the bus was arrested by Ahungalle Police.


Collision claims one

One persons was killed and another injured when the motorcycle they were riding crashed onto another motorcycle at the Mahagoda junction on the Elpitiya - Ambalangoda road. The deceased was Lahiru Lakshan Gunasinghe (22) of Karandeniya. He succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Elpitiya Hospital. The rider of the motorcycle was arrested and will be produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate.


Costly embrace

Wilgamuwa Police arrested a young man who embraced a young girl who was awaiting a bus with her sister at the Hettipola bus stand.

Police investigations revealed that the two sisters had come from Hasalaka to Hettipola to buy their daily needs and were waiting for a bus to go back. The suspect was produced before Naula Magistrate Rangani Gamage and remanded.


Mal Vasanthaya

Bingiriya 'Mal Vasanthaya', the Agriculture Educational Exhibition, organised by the Bingiriya Development Forum commenced Thursday at the Bingiriya public ground and will end today.

A workshop style seminar on Graphic Design and Multimedia Education will be held at the District Secretariat, Matale tomorrow.


 

Students’ worthy cause

Students of grade four of the Dharamasoka College, Ambalangoda donated a drinking water filter for use of the public who come to the post office at Ambalangoda.

It is the only post office available at the town.


Dharma Sabha

The Sadaham Panividaya Siyalu Jatheen Udesa Dharma Sabha organised by the National Languages and Social Integration Ministry and the All Ceylon Buddhist Federation will be held at the All Ceylon Buddhist Federation Conference Hall, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 on May 28 at 9 am.

This is the first Dharma Sabha conducted by theras who can preach in Tamil language, write in Tamil and teach in Tamil.


Our Lady of Matale annual feast

The annual feast of Our Lady of Matale will be held on May 29. Festive Mass will be celebrated at 4 pm by Apostolic Nuncio for Sri Lanka Most Rev Dr Joseph Spiteri. This will be followed by Marian procession.

Parish priest Rev Fr Dilan Fernando, Fr Anthony Marian, Fr Hasendra Perera and Fr Joe Pakkiam will also participate.


Wildlife Officers Assn AGM

The All Ceylon Wildlife Officers Association annual general meeting will be held at the Central Environmental Authority Auditorium, Battaramulla on May 30 at 10 a.m.

It will be held under the patronage of Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S M Chandrasena. Ministry secretary Udeni Wickremasinghe, Wildlife Conservation director general Dr Chandrawansa Pathiraja and Government Services Trade Union Federation chairman W H Piyadasa will also participate.


AGM

Minuwangoda Nalanda Central College All Boys Associations’ annual general meeting will be held tomorrow at 8.30 am at the college auditorium. The C.W.W. Kannangara commemorative ceremony to be held on September 23 will be discussed at the meeting.
