Beruwela, Kegalle hit by bad weather

Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds have caused extensive damage in the Beruwala electorate rendering about 1,123 families homeless.

Several houses in electorate have also been damaged while most roads are impassable due to fallen trees. The Beruwala Pradeshiya Sabha has taken action to clear the roads with public cooperation.

Beruwala divisional secretary Dhammika Rajapaksa said arrangements have been made to distribute food among flood victims. Meanwhile, five persons died following torrential rains experienced in the Kegalle district from May 26. Vehicular traffic on the Avissawella-Kegalle main road also came to a complete standstill by yesterday evening as the roads were impassable.
