'Leadership training programme, a timely move'

'The three week leadership training and positive thinking development programme for University entrants started by the Higher Education Ministry is a timely move which helps create a graduate who can see the world beyond his limited horizon, said Sri Lanka Freedom Students' Organization Senior Deputy Chairman Amantha Amaraweera.

Several political parties has turned this into a national problem because of misunderstanding about this programme. Several persons and groups introduced this leadership programme as a military training. But they do not want to know the truth and do not like to change their stance, he added. He was addressing the special press briefing organized by the Sri Lanka Freedom Students Organization, held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) yesterday.

This training will teach time management, first aid, conflict management, positive thinking and it will also develop a sense of solidarity among students. It helps students to learn about the laws of the country as well, he noted.

Several parties are trying to stop this training while interpreting it as a military training. They are afraid that their organizations would collapse. They think this training will damage their organizations' image. said Sri Lanka Freedom Students' Organization Deputy Secretary Gihan Bandara Madhusanka Bandara Dissanayake.

Most of the political leaders are also afraid of this training and they are trying to agitate against the government using this training. They are trying to find some errors in this programme to create a bad image about the Government among the public, he added.

He further noted that if someone stops this training by giving wrong information and creating a bad image about this programme as a respectable organization, the Sri Lanka Freedom Students Organization will take action to counter all such measures.

Sri Lanka Freedom Students' Organization Secretary Sumudu Wijewardhana, Administration Secretary Mahendra Perera and some other members also participated.
