Appointed Galle Bishop
Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Rev Fr Raymond Wickremasinghe as
Bishop of Galle, the Apostolic Nunciature in Sri Lanka, Embassy of the
Holy See said yesterday.
The Bishop-elect was born on August 31 1962, at Utuwankanda in the
Kegalle District. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the National
Seminary, Ampitiya (Kandy), where he obtained his Bachelor of Theology
Degree, and was ordained priest for the Diocese of Galle on August
5,1989.
After several years of pastoral ministry in different parishes, Rev.
Fr. Wickremasinghe continued his post-graduate studies in Rome and
obtained a Doctorate in Moral Theology from the Institute of Higher
Studies in Moral Theology (Accademia Alphonsiana) of the Pontifical
Lateran University.
He is currently Professor of Moral Theology at the National Seminary,
Ampitiya (Kandy) and also a member of the Council of Consultors of the
Diocese of Galle. |
