‘SL must be left alone to handle internal issues’
Dharma SRI ABEYRATNE
The Deputy Minister who was in Colombo, when asked about the
controversial Darusaman Report, said that the principles relating to
internal affairs were violated by appointing such a panel and by
presenting a report regarding baseless allegations of human rights
violations. “When it comes to an independent country it is up to them to
solve their own issues. Sri Lanka is not an exception as an independent
country, it is its duty to deal with its own internal affairs,” Deputy
Minister Fatholahi noted.
He added that Sri Lanka is capable of handling and mitigating its
domestic affairs. “Not intervening in internal affairs is one of the
important etiquettes of foreign affairs, Intervening unnecessarily in
others affairs is also against the principles of international affairs.”
The step taken by the international community against Sri Lanka with
regard to the baseless allegations cannot be accepted, he said. “In
fact, with respect to alleged human rights violations, such actions
should not be taken,” the Deputy Minister stressed. He pointed out that
human rights violations are seen and take place in many parts of the
world, even though, the international community is not taking any action
against some of these human rights violations.
Speaking about the peaceful situation in Sri Lanka, Deputy Minister
Fatholahi said that the country is an example to the world since the
country has got rid of the clutches of terrorism. “Any country has to
establish the freedom of their people, he said. “It is no matter where
the terrorism is, every country has to have a hand in eradicating
terrorism. The world is moving in the direction of uprooting and
eradicating deadly terrorism from the whole world to let people live
without fear.” Security has to be strengthened so as to let the people
move around freely while engaging in their day-to-day activities without
facing any obstacles,” he said.
“Meanwhile, it is obvious that certain powerful countries are
misusing their power without considering the value of human rights. In
fact, they are misusing human rights as an instrument to tackle the
internal affairs of other countries. |
