Nuwani, Kulanaka most outstanding paddlers

Kulanaka Hendehewa (Royal College, Colombo) walked away with a double as he won the under -15 and under-18 singles titles and became the most Outstanding Player (boys) at the recently concluded All Island Ranking Table Tennis (TT) Championships which was conducted by the North Western Province TT Association. The tournament was worked off at the Kurunegala Municipal Council Indoor Stadium.

The girls under-18 champion Nuwani Nawodya (Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda) who beat Tharunya Shashini (Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda) in the final match was adjudged as the Most Outstanding Player in the girls category.

Kulanaka defeated Udaya Ranasinghe (Vidyartha College, Kandy) in the under-15 final match and in the under 18 he out pointed Nuwan Jayasundara (Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala) in the final three sets to two. This is the very first time that Kulanaka has clinched a double in a national level tournament.

Nearly 500 paddlers from all parts of the country participated in the tournament.

Girls U-10: Imasha de Silva (Dharmasaoka College, Ambalangoda) beat Thanushi Rodrigo (Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy) 08-11, 14-12, 10-12, 11-5, 11-8

Girls: U-12: Kavindya Sheshadi (Dharmasaoka College, Ambalangoda) beat Sathya Udayangi, (Dharmasaoka College, Ambalangoda) 11-7, 12-14, 15-13, 11-2

Girls: U-15: Umaya Tharaki (Dharmasaoka College Ambalangoda) beat Paveena Silva (Girls High School, Kandy) 12-10, 11-6, 11-8

Girls U-18: Nuwani Navodya (Dharmasaoka College, Ambalangoda) beat Tharunya Shashini (Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda) 11-5, 11-8, 7-11, 8-11, 13-11

Boys under-10: Helith Hendavitharana (Dharmasaoka College, Ambalangoda) beat Tharusha Dulmith (Dharmasaoka College, Ambalangoda) 11-8, 11-8, 11-9

Under-12: P.D.U.Thennakoon (Dharmaraja College, Kandy) beat Chamod Sandeepa (Dharmasaoka College, Ambalangoda) 12-10, 11-5, 11-6

Under-15: Kulanaka Hendehewa (Royal College,Colombo) beat Udaya Ranasinghe (Vidyartha College, Kandy) 10-12, 11-6, 6-11, 11-9, 11-5

Under-18: Kulanaka Hendehewa (Royal College,Colombo beat Nuwan Jayasundara (Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala) 5-11, 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8
