Woman pawned fake jewellery

Police arrested a woman who had pawned fake gold jewellery and obtained Rs 1.7 million from the Regional Development Bank’s Nindavoor branch. The Sammanthurai Police arrested the woman on Monday when she came to the bank to pawn a fake gold bangle and obtain Rs 125,000.

The Nindavoor Regional Development Bank Manager K. Pushparaj told the Daily News that the woman, a resident of Nindavoor had pawned fake jewellery on 22 occasions from November 1, 2010 to May 20, 2011. He added that she had obtained Rs 1,735,000 from this particular branch only.

The manager also said that then the bank checked on their pawning records and found the suspect had pawned fake jewellery on 22 occasions. Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said the suspect woman was to be produced before the Sammanthurai Magistrate.
