CEA collects a ton of polythene at Sri Pada

Nearly a ton of plastic and polythene strewn by the pilgrims around the Sri Pada area was collected and brought down by a group of volunteers under a programme organized by the Central Environmental Authority(CEA).

The CEA has requested the public not to bring polythene and plastic for the next Sri Pada season, since the garbage discarded by the pilgrims can harm the unique ecosystem.

A CEA spokesman said that the collected waste was handed over to the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha for recycling.
