Selectors keep Morgan for Test
Elmo Rodrigopulle Reporting, London,Sunday
The England selectors headed by former off spinner Geoff Miller named
the best possible England squad to face Sri Lanka in the First of Three
Npower Tests beginning in Cardiff on Thursday.
Andrew Strauss led England to a convincing Ashes triumph in Australia
is at the helm again and has been given a strong squad to give
continuity to the winning streak they picked up in Australia.
Eoin Morgan who did not play in a single Test in Australia makes a
roaring come back to the England squad after his punishing innings of
193 against Sri Lanka for the England Lions. Unlucky to miss out was
Ravi Bopara who failed to impress against Sri Lanka in Derbyshire.
Morgan had made it known after his big innings, that he would have
had no other alternative, but to continue playing in the IPL if the
England selectors ignored him for the Three Tests against Sri Lanka. His
big innings was too much for the selectors to not take note of.
After the squad was announced, Chairman of England Selectors Geoff
Miller said: We are very excited to be back playing cricket on home soil
and are focused on building on the momentum we gained during the Ashes
last winter which was testament to the hard work everyone put into the
series.
We are currently have a talented an ambitious group of players who
are committed to becoming the number one side in Test cricket and we are
determined to start an important summer strongly beginning against Sri
Lanka in Cardiff.
The England squad: Andrew Strauss (C), James Anderson, Stuart Broad,
Alistair Cook, Steve Finn, Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen, Chris Tremlett,
Ian Bell. Greame Swann, Matt Prior and Jonathan Trott.
