Young rider Jaden triumph over Indian champ Jagan

Then Speed Championship 2011 round II concluded yesterday at the Pannala Circuit on a grand note with nine year old Jaden Genewardene creating history. Young Gunewardene and hid brother Aaron was at their best to stun the two Indian riders who were in action for the first time on Sri Lankan track.

Jaden and Aaron ompeted in the Group J standard Motor Cycles up to 125cc and grabbed the first two places to show the spectators that they are really on for the business. None of the senior riders were able to go past these two riders until the finish. The only rider who tried to pose a thresat was Nimesh Sandaruwan had to be to satisfied with the third slot here.

When the Group O standard up to125cc saw the two visiting riders Kumar Jagan and P/ Karthik in action. It was Jagan who was in from start as he was on pole position. Jagan off in a flash held a good lead for almost eight laps with Jaden and his brother Aaron and Karthik following. However Jaden reduced the lead and got past Jagan on the last bend and went on to win the race to stun all present, while Aaron snatched the third slot out riding Karthik.

The event in the same group also produced the same result with Jaden and Aaron on the podium. With this win senior Gunewardene went on to win a treble on this at this tender age to set a new record on the circuit. The two riders from India said that they never expected these younsters to pose a threat of this nature.

In the Motor car events there was a another classy achievement in the Nissan March 1000cc One make category when the only woman driver SA Lakshika who held the pole position went on to win the event pushing aside all male competitors. Lakshika off in flash seen getting a leadin the second lap and moved smoothly controling the race well until she received the chequered flag. She was followed by Michael Wijesuriya and her brother SA Harsha.

The other other highlight of the day was seen when the organizers introduced aMotor Cycle event for ladies. This event saw six lady riders in action which included a nine year student from Harischandra Vidyalaya Negombo Hansika Dhanushi. This event caught the eyes all present as the girl was not brought to the track by her father. Once the race got under way the tiny tot used all energy to handle the machine and controlled it well to take the second place behind the winner Disna Dilrukshi. The introduction of this event was highly appreciated by all motor racing fans.

Dinesh Deheragoda a veteran in the Super Car Series had another good day winning the SL – GT 3500cc Class event. He too ha the advantage of being on the pole position and once off from the grid went on to finish without much difficulty. Reyaz Farook and Rameez Mehmoor who specially flew for the meet were the runners up respectively. Pasindu Peiris who was the hero at the Fox Super Cross failed to come up with his heroics as his machine came up with mechanical problems during the race.

Praveen Madugalle drove his Formula 1300cc to victory in race number one of the Speed Championship 2011.Thiwanka Wijesekera and Sithara Peiris followed him as runners up in this event. In the race two Praveen Madugalle and Thiwanka Wijesekera could fare well to reach the podium as they faced problems at the very first lap and had pull out of the race which was won by Gayan Ranatunga.

Dinesh Jayawardene another veteran in the Formula Class proved that is is still the best by winning the Ford Formula 1600cc Class ahead of Dilan Seneviratne and Rohan de Silva who is still driving his Formulas in great style. Rohan who started almost from the back of the grid used all his skills to take the third place. Ashan Silva who reached a high within a short period of time once again came up with a fine drive to win the Honda 1600 One Make category with ease.

Ned Daniel rode his Honda NS 250cc to beat Sheron Fernando to go away with the 250 cc Standard event victory. Meanwhile in the Super Motard 450cc Class it was Suraj Poerera who came up with flying colors., while in the 2500 class of the same category Thuwan Princy took honors by riding to victory.

Udika Srimal and Azlie Irshad are the pther two riders recorded win on thistrack yeaterday.

Hafiz Cader in a tense race defeated Ajith Keethi in the SL-A Group 1050cc class event driving a Austin Mini, Miahel Wijesuriy had to be content with the third slot in this race.

The Speed Championship 2011 is organized and conducted by Asian Motor Racing Club, Sri Lanka Mator Racing Club, Sri Lanka Motor Sports Club and Motor racing Association was highly a successful with the new introductions qnd many firsts on this day. Full results will follow later.
