Bambara Walalla tops SAARC Film Festival Awards

Seasoned movie director Athula Rathna Sri Liyanage won the award for
the best feature film in SAARC Film Festival Awards which happened
recently at the National Film Cooperation Theater. The award was given
for his critically acclaimed film Bambara Walalla.

The film festival unraveled with the participation of movie directors
from neighboring countries. Representatives from India, Pakistan and
Bhutan showcased their films during the festival. Pakistani director
Shazad Rafique, Indian director Somnath Gupta, Bhutan director Wangchuk
and couple of actresses from Pakistan and Bhutan were also present at
the film festival.
Speaking to Daily News ‘Projector’ Bhutan film director Wangchuk
said, “The SAARC film festival is a positive move. All South Asian
directors have similar kind of issues and problems. The festival acts as
the ideal platform for us to get together and talk about these issues.”
The second place went to Indian filmmaker Somanth Gupta for Ami Aadu
(Sound of Love).
Benette Rathnayaka won third place for Ira Handa Yata.
Certificates were given to all the representatives. The SAARC
Cultural Centre organizers revealed that they hope to conduct the event
in grand fashion next year with the participation of other member
countries as well. |
