Opportunities open for potential exporters to USA and region

The time is appropriate for Sri Lankan Exporters to seek new export business in the USA, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, said NATE Canada President Bernard De Livera.

The US recession and the effects of the melt-down is behind us, he said. According to him the last available annual trade figures show that the US imported over US $ 2 Trillion worth of products and services and Canada imported over US $ 425 Billion worth of products and services. In USA and Canada in particular purchases (imports) are done throughout the year as imports must be made for all four separate reasons, special holidays such as valentine's day, Mother's day, Father's day, Halloween etc and religious events such as Christmas and sports, hobbies and recreational events.

According to him the need of the hour is absolute professionalism. The buyers and buying houses are keen on buying high quality goods.

The exporters need to be oriented to approach, present and follow up on accepted international trade norms. If an exporter fulfills his part according to established practices and processes preferences of the buyers, the rate of success and the possibility of capturing new export business may be higher.
