'Northern education in past, destroyed by incorrect political
leadership'
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister
Douglas Devananda participating at a ceremony held to commemorate the
75th Anniversary of Pungudutivu Kamalambigai Junior School which was
held on May 5, 2011, said that under the guidance of incorrect political
leadership, the education of the entire North had been completely
destroyed.
Speaking further, the Minister said that this school had been one of
the oldest schools in the islets and as no development had taken place
so far, which was due to the war, stressed the necessity of commencing
development to the school forthwith. Owing to the demand by children,
parents and teachers, the Minister had promised to supply the school
with electricity, erect a two storeyed building and also supply windows
to the existing building.
He also said that he would make arrangements to take the children out
on an educational tour during the school vacation.
"It's only through a good education that we could create a
well-disciplined and law abiding society, therefore both the teachers
and students concertedly should work together to achieve this
objective," the Minister said.
Secretary to the Ministry of Local Government, Northern Provincial
Council Vijayaluxmi Ramesh who chaired the meeting, said that the
minister was tenaciously bound to the life of the islanders and had done
a great deal for the development of education in the islets for which
they were grateful to him.
Chief Priest of Nallur Kovil Kurukkal Somasundarampillai Zonal
Director of Education Radhakrishna, Navy Commanding Officer of
Pungudutivu and School Principal Nagarajah also participated at the
ceremony
