ISB to conduct training programme

The Industrial Services Bureau (ISB) will commence a unique training
programme for the SMEs in the country in collaboration with Wayamba
University. ISB Director S Neelakanthan told Daily News Business that
the objective is to provide practical management skills to the SME
sector to enhance their productivity. The programme titled
Entrepreneurship Development Diploma will commence on June 4 at the
Wayamba University and classes will be held on every Saturday from 9am.
to 5 pm.
He said that there won't be any examinations to the participants but
assessments will be done through assignments which will be a practical
issue in their own companies. It will be supported by the lecture panel.
The ISB has observed that it is necessary to educate and upgrade SMEs
on how to do business professionally to compete in the global market
enhancing productivity.
The course will cover areas such as business management, marketing,
and financial management.
There will be a visit to a newly industrialised East Asian country
and visits to a few local industrial places. The programme will be held
in both Sinhala and English media. Neelakanthan said that all SMEs
should have a 10 year experience in business to follow the course.
Only 40 participants will be admitted to the first programme. A MoU
will be signed between Wayamba University and ISB next week in this
regard.
