Zahira Veterans soccer team to tour Malaysia

The Zahira Veterans Football Club, will embark on their maiden tour to Malaysia to play two encounters against Malaysia Veterans team, which will take place in Petaling Jaya, Selangor Malaysia organized by the :”Petaling District Football Association” to foster friendship and sportsmanship.

The team will be led by Muhiseen Ariff a legend and former Captain of the Zahira College, Colombo, which won the Brazil Cup Championship in 1969 and has vast experience in the football field as a player and captained Victory Sports Club.

Too in 1980’s and a dynamic Ex FIFA referee who had blown Internationally and locally in many tournaments and now he is employed by FIFA as Referees Development Officer for South Asia and Central region who still has the ability and the skills in the field.

Mohamed Imran Thaam, will assist him as the vice captain on this tour.

Former National players, like Naina Mohamed who had represented the country when he was 19-years old who played as an attacker and very skilful player who used opportunity to score goals as an attacker and played for the Zahira College team and has a very good record.

The most vital and influential person Fouzul Hameed, Chairman of Board of Governors of Zahira College, Colombo who is also an old boy and this is the first time a Chairman BOG is representing the Malaysian tour and who will play in the team and it will be a part of this historic tour.

The players who had Captained the Zahira’s football team and represented the Sri Lanka schools are Mohamed Illiyas and Alavy Mohamed Hussain. Other captains are Isha Bin Rohan, Alavi Mukthar and Fouzul Hameed. The team consists of many experienced “A” Division players such as Hassimdeem Haleem, Mohamed Saffan and other team members are Sharan Laffir, Hameed Nawshad, Mohamed Shafeek, Tuan Cuncheer, Mohamed Rizvi, T.A.Rasiff, Niyas Abubaker, Aslam Thowfeek, M.R.Abdeen, Feroze Inham, Mohamed Amaan and M.J.M.Fawmy.

This historic tour to Malaysia is a result of the progress and recognition that has been gained and earned by the school and the veterans club. All are rich in skills and haven’t lost touch of their game and have lot of expertise and are fully fit.

They could expect a fantastic tour with mixture of veteran players who will play good football and they hope the veterans football team will emerge victorious and make Zahirians proud.

The tour Manager of the Club is Alavi Mukthar, Secretary of the OBA and Member of the Board of Governors.
