Global warming, climate change, the Greenhouse effect, the reasons
for the detioration of the ozone layer... it leads to the same
conclusion, gradual destruction of mother earth. Very soon mankind will
be descending from the frying pan into the fire, knowingly and therefore
willingly... why...? because we simply don’t care.
We seem to be hell bent living for the present, feathering our own
nests, making hay while the sun shines, extracting from mother earth
almost everything she possesses, sucking her dry from the inside, while
on the outside we are doing our best to turn our green earth into a
barren landscape. The wound needs healing... we can’t put back what
we’ve extracted but we can prevent mother earth from turning into the
feared barren landscape.. by planting trees which will benefit man.
Reduce deforestation and seek alternative forms of energy.
We need to draw the line, enough is enough, why cut the soil from
underneath our feet..?? In most instances all efforts to create an
awareness of the magnitude of this calamity, is akin to pouring water on
a ducks back... you can take a horse to the water but you cannot make
him drink it. We have to stand up take notice and act fast.
Here’s how we could contribute our mite towards tackling climate
change.
* If every household and business reduces the consumption of
electricity by switching off air conditioners and lights when not in
use. “It is recommended that notices be displayed adjacent to switches.
Please switch off when not in use.”
* If we avoid business travel, by car air and use modern
communication mediums instead.
* If we share our car journeys with friends, when attending meetings
and adopt a car share scheme to and from work etc.
There are none so blind as those would not see and none so deaf as
those who would not listen... the facts are staring us in the face, lets
act now, if not for our sake, for the sake of our children and their
children.

For a start the every day nerve racking speedings, sudden
bone-jarring brakings and startings, the numerous surprise jerks, swings
and sways, etc, routinely meted out by the many drivers on the poor
long-suffering commuters should be tackled/solved? This never can be
achieved by remote control or switches on buses in transit umpteen miles
distance away from parent depots or terminal points! A “sure fire” long
term approach and solution for the systematic tackling of the malaise
should be a regular regionally planned surveillance by the field staff
of depots in civilian attire for that all important element of surprise
and impact!
The success of above, combined with smart buses available daily on
the Operations Time-Table requirements should surely ensure a satisfied
commuter on whom really the whole undertaking revolves!
Here’s cheers for that efficiency aim and drive!

A very few ministers often go to the field to see what is happening
as a result of public complaints or newspaper reports. One such minister
is Transport Minister Kumara Welgama. This has made him solve a lot of
problems which the commuters have been facing without permanent
solutions.
Minister Welgama is also valiant enough to face the Private Bus
Owners without dancing to their tunes. Even if their demand for bus fare
increase is granted by a fraction of their percentage, increasing of the
six rupees ticket should not be allowed as it badly affects all
commuters. If they strike, let them do so. Use all the state buses and
give the working class one hour late arrival and one hour early
departure and the problem will be solved. They will call off their
strike themselves unable to face the finance companies.
When passing the Maradana Railway Station I saw an old and huge
parapet wall being pulled down and it appears some facelift is going to
be given to beautify the vicinity.
Of the Fort Railway Station I request the minister to consider
connecting the southern corner bridge to the overhead bridge constructed
just opposite the station to enable people to cross straight from the
station itself without coming out of it and search for pedestrian
crossings or open spaces to cross the roads. This could be considered
regarding the Maradana bridges as well.
The row of shops owned by the CGR at Bastion Mawatha requires a study
again. Many shops are kept closed for a very long time and some leasers
are missing. Due to this reason, people are using such spots to pass
their call of nature thereby creating an odour in the area. Therefore,
arrangements should be made to keep such shops open or cancel the lease
agreements and offer them to new parties.
The Central Bus Station has been given a facelift. But its interior
is gloomy, untidy and the steps are broken. It is not proper to decorate
the front and keep the rear or inside of it ugly or unattended.
Lastly, Bloemendhal Road - a highly commercial and residential area
with schools and stadiums does not have its 167 route bus in operation.

Open I my pen promptly to disclose my mental agony
Hearing the baseless allegations lodged against my country
Muslims here proud to say they love Sri Lanka, their
motherland
Rejoice I, Patriotism indeed is their watch word
Do or die is always the terrorists’ preserved policy
Ail I - though I am a Muslim but a member of global family
Regarding the Barbaric cruel and Brutal activities
Unrest, upheaval fear and tension the terrorists create!
Suffer, much always only the ordinary persons
Most of them have become victims to their treasons!
As necessity has no law, please don’t be lenient
Never allow even a ‘seed’ of terrorists to sprout!
Do you agree and approve my opinion to implement
O! being a gentle-man so genius and a ‘true-man’
Not at all you’ll reject I trust, my humble suggestion
To uproot totally nasty terrorism from every nation.
Despite of immense efforts from the very inception
In fact, by the rulers of the Pearl of Indian Ocean
Sagaciously made to settle problems with Tamil Brethren
Particularly with the LTTE but they chased Muslims
Are you aware within twenty four hours from Jaffna
Remember please, another cruel incident at Kattankudy
Alas! more than 100 devotees when performing their prayers
Gunned down by the devious desperadoes the misanthropes
Especally to achieve their ‘Tamil Eelam’ committing carnages
Of course I mentioned the damages caused to us in short
Undoubtedly the irreparable losses and casualties to innocent
Residents - Yeah the Sinhalese brethren reached no limit!
Still say we ‘BRAVO’ as our politic President eradicated
terrorism
O! averting at last tension, and thrill even terrible
communalism!
Verily! the PEACE OF MIND after thirty years we have got
Enhancing - ONE NATION, ONE COUNTRY the patriot’s target
Request we, please leave us to continue our march for
prosperity
Explain our solidarity to your ‘Boss’ Banki’ Moon Properly
In the light of truism and non favourism that twinkle
Genuine and Noble services rendered to the people
Not at all will bring any insult, prejudice or blot
Though the ‘under-cuts’ as well as wire pullers tried to plot!
Yeah! Almighty God knows the truth and will help no doubt.
