NTF provides insurance cover for Vesak Zones

The National Trust Fund, the official insurance sponsor of the 2600th Sambuddhathva Jayanthi has taken steps to provide insurance cover to all locations proclaimed as Vesak Zones in the Colombo urban area.

National Insurance Trust Fund chairman Senake Abegunasekera told a press briefing at the Cey-Nor Restaurant in Colombo that each Vesak Zone has been insured for Rs 500 million.

The National Insurance Trust Fund operates under the Finance Ministry.Under this insurance scheme each individual has been insured for Rs 1,000,000, he said.Fort and Lake House Zones, Hunupitiya Gangaramaya, Bauddhaloka Mawatha and Independence Square, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall premises, Art Gallery and Kelaniya Manel Waththa temple premises are included under this insurance scheme.

The Sri Maha Bodhi premises has also been covered by another special insurance scheme during the State Vesak ceremony, Abeygunasekera said.

He said that all chief incumbents of Atamasthanas have been insured under a special insurance scheme operated by the National Trust Fund.

An Ambulance service is also ready round the clock during this period.
