Army completes reconstruction work
The construction of the new three storied building by the 5th
Battalion of Engineer Services Regiment (5 ESR) at Thelipalai Mahajana
College is progressing and is expected to be completed by the end of
this year.
The regiment has completed over 65 percent of the work in the first
floor.
The construction commenced on an initiative of Defence Secretary
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Well-wishers and donors have provided Rs 25 million for the project.
The building consists of 14 classrooms, an aesthetic education unit
and a pavilion.
Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe
recently inspected the progress of the construction.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka National Guard 9th (SLNG) Battalion installed a
new water supply system at Puthumadam Roman Catholic Primary School at
Inuvil recently.
It costs over Rs 60,000 collected from donors in southern Sri Lanka.
Soldiers also cleaned and renovated the dilapidated children's park
in the school, colour washed all classrooms and constructed a new dais
for flag hoisting.
They also distributed parcels of school items to students at the
unveiling ceremony of the water supply system.
Religious leaders, 513 Brigade Commander Brigadier Pradeep Silva, 9
SLNG Commanding Officer Major JR Jumar, Zonal Director of Education
Kuberanathan, teachers, students and parents were present at the
occasion.
