Abas, Providence organize forum

The post-war evolution of integrated systems in Sri Lanka a forum organized by Abas Software AG and Providence Network and Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd was held recently with the participation of industry and business leaders and other stakeholders. The event started with the handing over of a Cheque for US$ 200,000 by Abas Software Germany COO Peter Forscht to IT Department Sri Jayawardenapura University which was received by the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, Professor Sampath Amaratunga.

Dr Vaz Gnanam said "Sri Lanka has seen a phenomenal economic growth after the conclusion of the war and in this period we find most companies are gearing up to expand their business and to cater to this high level of demand which leads to a rise in the number of transactions and processes it becomes more important for companies to have reliable systems in place, and this need could be catered by a good ERP system.

Peter Forscht the founder of Abas Software in Germany also addressed the audience on key factors in choosing a good ERP system & re-iterated the fact that ERP is all about efficiency and effectiveness. He also highlighted the fact that in choosing a good ERP one should select a good vendor with whom the company can have a long-term business relationship, because in recent times lots of vendors make the sale and wind up operations leaving the clients in dire straits.

Sampath Jayasundera from hSenid spoke on "the role of ERP in competitive business" and Averil Ludowyke from Ernst & Young addressed the audience on "The Accountants role in ensuring ERP success.

There was also a speach delivered by Ranga Kariapperuma from CISCO Systems on the smart business road map.
