Buddha's Sacred Hair Relics exposition at Gangaramaya
A special exposition of the Sacred Hair Relics of the Buddha will be
held from May 7 to June 15 at the Hunupitiya, Gangaramaya, Colombo 3
daily at 6.30 pm.
Offerings to 28 Buddhas and principal male and female disciples will
also take place at the temple premises.
Donations received by the temple from the exposition of the Sacred
Relics will be utilized to supply water to temples and schools in remote
areas.
STF officers find arms cache
Officers of the Vakarai STF Camp found a large cache of arms and
ammunition buried in a thicket near the Thattamune lagoon during a
search operation on Thursday.
It included a bomb weighing 10 kilos, two mortar bombs weighing 30
kilos and five kilos each, a hand bomb, three pressure mines, two fuses
and 200 grammes C4 explosives.
Investigations are continuing.
Dialog switches on 4G - LTE Pilot Network in Colombo
Dialog Axiata announced yesterday that its pilot 4G network had been
powered up in several key zones of Colombo city, signaling South Asia's
first touch exposition of Long Term Evolution (LTE) services.
It said its pilot network has demonstrated the delivery of over 100
Mbps in indoor demonstration mode and 40 - 50Mbps under outdoor mobile
conditions, within the Colombo Fort, Colombo 2 and 3 regions with
demonstrations at the Dialog Future World at Darley Road Colombo.
Nihanda Jeewa from May 7 to 9
The National Craft Council will hold a Buddhist art exhibition titled
Nihanda Jeewa-2011 to mark the 2600th Sambuddathva Jayanthi. This will
be held under the patronage of National Craft Council Chairman Dr Buddhi
Keerthisena, at the National Art Gallery, from May 7 to 9 from 8.00 am
to 10.00 pm.
Nihal Sangabo Dias, who is dumb from birth, will exhibit his work at
the exhibition.
Lecture on invasive species
A lecture on the invasive species (plants and animals) and their
adverse impact on Sri Lanka's fauna and flora, will be delivered by
Colombo University senior lecturer, author and Field Ornithology Group
of Sri Lanka President Dr Devaka Weerakoon on May 12 at 6.00 pm at the
Institute of Engineers, 120/15, Vidya Mawatha,off Wijerama Mawatha,
Colombo 7.
Praise and Worship service
A service of 'Praise and Worship' will be held on May 8 at 10.30 am
at the Cathedral of Christ, the Living Saviour Colombo 7.
Special arrangements have been made for personal prayer to be offered
for the individual needs of the congregation.
The speaker and minister at this service, which is open to all, is Dr
Vijaya Corea who will speak on - "Given the catastrophes around the
world, what next?"
Poly clinic
The Sri Lanka Cancer Society will hold their next poly clinic on May
8 from 8.30 am to 11.00 am at 37/25, Bullers Lane, Colombo 7 to screen
patients for all types of cancer.
Paps smears testing, dental and general clinic activities will also
be conducted.
The services are free of charge.
Foreigner nabbed for chicken theft

A foreigner who stole 150 grams of chicken from a supermarket was
nabbed by a salesman.
He was handed over to the Kalutara South Police.
Fairwell dinner
The Executive Committee of the Judicial Service Association will host
a "Farewell Dinner" to ex-Chief Justice Asoka de Silva at Hotel Taj
Samudra today at 7.00 p.m.
Journalists Assn unhappy over selection
The North Sri Lanka Journalists Association has condemned and
protested against the selection of journalists to attend the conferences
for the journalists to be held on May 7 and 8 in Vavuniya where Mass
Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella will address the
Northern journalists. North Sri Lanka Journalists Association President
S Kathiragamathamby said their association is the only registered
association in the North.
Their members represent Jaffna Tamil newspapers as well as the
Colombo based national newspapers. They allege that they have not been
informed about this conference and the selection to attend the
conference has been done without their knowledge arbitrarily. Senior
journalists with more than 20 years service have been kept out.
Two arrested with ganja
Special Task Force officers attached to the Udawala Police manning a
check point on Thursday seized a car transporting 20.302 kg of ganja and
arrested the two occupants travelling in the car. They were handed over
to the Godakawela Police who are conducting further investigations.
Trishaw driver killed
Vavuniya Police is investigating the alleged murder of a 61-year-old
three wheeler taxi driver named Moharjeen Miskin of Susaipullayarkulam
whose body was found inside the three wheeler abandoned in a jungle area
in Thondar Suttikulam on Wednesday.
Death of well known social worker
The death occurred yesterday of Y L M Mohomad Sally of China Fort
Beruwala. He was 82. A well known social worker of the area, Sally was
at one time private secretary to former Philanthropist M I M Naleem
Hadjiar. Janaza takes place at the Fazia Mosque, China Fort, Beruwala
