Controversial Darusman Report:
Move to tarnish Lanka's image
Sarath MALALASEKERA
"Every right-thinking person is concerned about the controversial
Darusman Report which was handed over to the United Nations
Secretary-General by panellists appointed by Ban ki Moon on his own
without the consent of the General Assembly and the Security Council of
the UNO," said Consumer Affairs Council chairman, senior Attorney-at-Law
Upali Seneratne.
"The Report runs into several pages which has been designed to
tarnish Sri Lanka's image, which has gone down in world history, as the
first country which exterminated terrorism."
Senaratne said all the leaders who ruled the country before President
Mahinda Rajapaksa thought the LTTE to be invincible.
"But the leadership given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa could root
out the LTTE with the help of the most disciplined armed forces in the
world," he said.
"The LTTE organization assassinated former Indian Prime Minister
Rajiv Gandhi, former Sri Lankan President Ranasinghe Premadasa and
attempted to assassinate former Sri Lankan President Chandrika
Bandaranaike and killed thousands of innocent civilians. This ruthless
LTTE organization also killed Tamil leaders like Lakshman Kadirgamar, A
Amirthalingam and N Thiruchelvam, conscripted children for the war,
introduced human bombs, and desecrated places, such as, Dalada Maligawa
in Kandy and Sri Maha Bodhiya in Anuradhapura," he added.
"The Darusman Report calls that brutal and terrorist organization a
"disciplined" one. No sane person would call it so," Senaratne said.
"The Report contains inaccuracies and misinformation and did not
divulge the sources of information. Therefore nobody can ascertain the
veracity of the reports" he said.
The public have shown their faith in President Mahinda Rajapaksa by
giving massive mandates at every election for exterminating terrorism
which perpetrated atrocities unparallelled in the history of mankind. |
