Darusman Report biased - Consul General

Sri Lanka’s Consul General in Toronto, Canada Karunaratne Paranawithana yesterday told OMNI TV that some of the proxy organizations of LTTE are going to organize agitations demanding of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to implement the Darusman Report.

The Consul General pointed out these agitations were useless. He said that the Darusman Report was biased and it was wrong to identify the Report as a UN Report.

The Report or the Panel appointed by the UN Secretary General has no formal nexus with the UN decision or its affiliated organizations. The Sri Lankan government does not agree with the report or its contents due to several reasons. “The Report’s content do the gravest possible damage to the delicate reconciliation process. The Report is detrimental to the ongoing reconciliation process.

The process followed by the committee is flawed. It had done no investigations neither had it any power of investigating allegations against a UN member country, Paranawithana said. The Consul General requested the members of the diaspora community not to be targeted again by the activities of front organizations of LTTE in Canada and other western countries.
