Huawei donates Rs 30 m to Tharunyata Hetak movement
ICT development programme for rural community in Sri

Tharunyata Hetak foundation functioning under the preview of MP Namal
Rajapaksa and Huawei Technologies have embarked on another programme of
promoting information technology within the rural community in Sri
Lanka.
The programme is themed as Gamata IT under which the project will
provide basic computer training skills & ICT skills to several villages
across Sri Lanka.
The project seeks to fill in the technological gap and IT usage by
the rural population in Sri Lanka. The government is currently
encouraging the civil society and the private sector to help transform
rural villages into computer literate societies.
Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd. is a telecommunication equipment
manufacturer and a total solutions provider having presence in over 100
countries worldwide with over 100,000 staff serving the
telecommunication and ICT requirements of operators worldwide.
Nestle Nutrition Institute holds scientific symposium
With world renowned expert:
Upholding its strong commitment to continuous nutrition education,
Nestle Nutrition Institute (NNI) recently concluded an international
scientific lecture symposium in Colombo.
On invitation by NNI, Professor Hania Szajewska, Chair of the
Department of Paediatrics from the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland
delivered a scientific deliberation on "Immunity and child health:
Current evidence" at the event. A world renowned academician on
paediatric nutrition, she is also the General Secretary of the European
Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN).
ESPGHAN is a global entity which sets the standards and guidelines for
infant nutrition.
During her presentation, Prof. Szajewska shared the very latest
scientific research on the proven benefits of "Probiotics" for the
immunity and healthy growth of children. Also present at the event was
Medical Director of Nestle Nutrition Institute in the South Asian Region
Dr. Sanjeev Ganguly.
Over 100 key paediatricians and general practitioners attended the
event. The lecture was followed by an interactive question and answer
session facilitated by Dr BJC Perera, a senior Consultant Paediatrician.
This unique forum offered a rare opportunity for local Health Care
Professionals (HCPs) to exchange their views and experiences on a global
platform.
The Nestle Nutrition Institute is an independent, non-profit making
organization and the non-commercial arm of Nestle Nutrition. NNI
partners with healthcare professionals by offering them nutrition
information and education, and also creates a platform for networking
and sharing of new research and developments. In addition, NNI also
offers resources such as scientific workshops and satellite symposia,

Dettol invites people

ISMM holds 19th convocation
The Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) held its 19th
convocation on April 9 at Galle Face Hotel. Irrigation and Water
Resources Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva was the chief guest and Prima
Ceylon (Private) Limited General Manager Ong Jhon Seon Jay was the guest

United Motors, Unimo Enterprises open dedicated showroom for permit
holders
In a move to personalize its service to its permit customers United
Motors and its subsidiary Unimo Enterprises Ltd recently opened its
latest permit office and showroom at No. 95, Hyde Park Corner, Colombo 2
exclusively for senior government officials who have received

SLT rewards Prepaid Card Dealers
Sri Lanka Telecom, held its annual convention, "Sri Lanka Telecom
Prepaid Card Dealer Convention" honouring its dealers, recently at the
Galadari Hotel, Colombo. SLT has similarly celebrated this reciprocal
relationship with its many prepaid card dealers annually, as it values
its extensive dealer network across Sri Lanka and identifies it as a key
strength in SLT's future growth trajectory. A well-maintained dealer
network by SLT also means that Sri Lankans will have better access to
SLT services, no matter which part of the island they are in.

Awards for the second runner-up, first runner-up, and Best Dealer
were given to the dealers with the highest sales in their region for
SLTnet cards, SLT City Link CDMA and SLT Passport calling cards,
respectively. Dealers across the island were also rated against set
criteria with SLT rewarding its high performing dealer with the most
coveted title of the event - Most Outstanding Dealer. SLT rewarded its
prepaid dealers in an even bigger way this year by gifting its regional
winners with overseas holiday packages which includes air tickets and
hotel accommodation and the national winners of the 'overall' category
with motor bicycles in addition to exotic holiday packages.
SLT's dealer network extends far and across Sri Lanka even covering
remote villages. Revenue brought in by dealers has seen a steady rise
over the past three years, and the dealers in turn been loyal to SLT. 90
percent of them having been with SLT for the past three years. Sri Lanka
Telecom believes that upholding a close relationship and engaging in
centralized monitoring of its dealer network will serve to ensure
consistency of service among the many different dealers, leading to a
three-way 'win, win, win' relationship between SLT, its dealers, and its
customers.
As many customers rely on SLT's prepaid dealer network to obtain SLT
services in Sri Lanka, building business consistency throughout will
indeed be gainful to all parties. SLT's pursuit in maintaining and

Russels (pvt) Ltd, will expand its business to mark the company's
25th anniversary by opening 25 new outlets in and around Colombo with an
investment of Rs 1.5 million.
Russel's Tea, Managing Director Russel Perera told Daily News
Business that this will be implemented under Russel's Bakery Chain
concept. Russels Tea, well-known for many services in the catering
business opened their first outlet at 14/3, Ground Floor Welikada Plaze,
Rajagiriya on Tuesday.
This outlet has a fibre-glass interior which effectively facilitates
fast food service. Russels hope to set up 25 outlets within eighteen
months.

Seminar for building contractors in East
Chamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka which is partnering GIZ on
the German Funded Project "Peace Building Through Vocational Training"
in the Eastern Region will host a seminar for Construction Contractors
in the Batticaloa District on Saturday May 7. The seminar is designed to
create a greater awareness of the CCI - GIZ initiative, facilitate on
the job training opportunities for 5,000 construction crafts trainees
who will be trained under this project in addition to a technical
session on capacity building of the contractors.

inaugurate this seminar as chief guest at 8.30 a.m. at Hotel Green
