Adriano extends Monaco deal

Brazilian defender Adriano on Friday announced the signing of a three-year extension to his contract with French first division side Monaco.

Adriano, 29, was out of contract in June but is set to remain with the Principality club until 2014.

"I've been negotiating with the club for six weeks," said Adriano, who claimed he had other offers from within France's top flight. "Despite interest from elsewhere I told my agent to try and make sure I stay at Monaco. I like it here and my family are settled. I'm very happy to be staying."

Monaco are currently 15th in the 20-team first division.
