May Day rallies:
IGP calls for peaceful processions

Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya yesterday appealed to
those participating in May Day rallies to conduct processions in a
peaceful manner without violating the law.
The IGP also directed the party leaders to advice their supporters to
conduct peaceful processions along the main roads.
The IGP also gave a detailed report of how political parties should
participate in the May Day rallies in Colombo and in outstations.
The main May Day rally of the government will start from Borella,
Campbell Park, Colombo. The LSSP rally will commence from Fort Railway
Station.
Trade unions from Kollupitiya junction, July Strikers Organisation
from near the Public Library, Colombo, MEP from Narahenpita Flats, JVP
from Dehiwela SDS Jayasinghe Play Grounds, Ceylon Mercantile Workers
Union (CMU) from 22nd Lane, Kollupitiya, Jathika Nidahas Peramuna from
Maligakanda Road, Maradana and five Left parties from NM Perera
Junction, Colombo.
Socialist Party from Jayantha Weerasekera Mawatha, Maradana,
Socialist Equality Party from Colombo Town Hall.
The following roads will be closed during the May Day rallies. They
are FR Senanayake Mawatha, Green Path, Baseline Road, Park Lane.
Special arrangements have been made for vehicles coming along the
Kandy Road, to Colombo to participate in the May Day rally. The Traffic
Police will issue a lable with (A1) for vehicles coming from Kandy Road
along the Kelaniya Bridge, Baseline Road, Dematagoda and opposite the
Prisons Department.
The Traffic Police will issue label (A2) for vehicles coming along
Galle Road, Wellawatta, Bambalapitiya, Kollupitya Junction and Liberty
Circle. Police will issue a lable (A3) for vehicles coming along High
Level Road, Kirulapone and Narahenpita junction to Borella.
The vehicles coming from Negombo Road with the lable (A4) will be
allowed to park along Green Path, Lipton Circus and Dharmapala Mawatha.
The (A5) label will be issued for the vehicles coming to Colombo from
Welikada, Kotta Road. A lable with (A6) issued to vehicles coming to
Colombo from Kohuwela, Nugegoda, High Level Road, Kirulapone Road and
Maradana Road. |
