Workshop on Physical Education concludes

Sports Science Unit of the Jaffna University conducted a national workshop on Physical Education and Sport Science at the Kailasapathy auditorium, Jaffna University recently in collaboration with Annamalai University, India.

Large number of representatives from all universities in the country and physical training instructors from Jaffna region participated at this workshop. The program was organized with the intention of increasing the awareness on the subject and popularize sports science as a university subject in the country.

The inaugural function was chaired by the Jaffna University Sport Science Unit co-ordinator Prof M Nadarajasundaram while the Jaffna University Vice Chancellor Prof Vasanthy Arasaratnam was the chief guest.

Two Indian resource personnel from the Annamalai University's Physical Education and Sports Science Department, Prof V Gopinath and Dr M Elayaraja conducted the workshop.

Ruhunu Universty's Physical Education Instructor H R Gamini said that the workshop was very informative and Sports Science will play a vital role in bringing the country's sports to the international level. Ruhuna, Jaffna, Peradeniya, Moratuwa, Kelaniya and Sabaragamuwa Universities have already introduced the subject in to their universities and authorities must introduce it to the other universities too," he said.
