Gold and Silver for SL athletes

Sri Lankan batch of athletes who participated in the Thailand Open
Athletic Championship returned to the island with four gold medals and
three silver medals. The event, concluded at Thamasat University ground
in Bangkok on April 25 was a successful one with the results gained as
the Sri Lankan contingent comprised second string competitors.
T P K Mendis collected two gold medals in 800 meters and 1500 with a
timing of 1.50.04 minutes and 3.56.12 minutes respectively. R W L
Dayaratne won a gold medal in his event, javeline throw while D A
Samanmalee in women's 5000 meters left the others behind in 17.12.04
minutes to win the gold.
Kasun Senaviratne who finished the 400 meters in 47.48 minutes won a
silver medal and D A Samanmalee collected a silver for 800 meters with a
timing of 2.10.06 minutes and she took her medal tally to three with
another silver in the 1500 meters in 4.22.04 minutes which is a new
national record.
