A ceremony to mark the 20th
anniversary of the Jathika Namal Uyana project was held at
the Namal Uyana secretariat at Dambulla under the patronage
of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa recently. Here, Namal
Uyana Founder Ven. Wanawasi Rahula Thera presenting a book
written on the Namal Uyana to the First Lady who later
visited Namal Uyana on an inspection tour. Presidential
Secretary on Parliamentary Affairs and Secretary Jathika

Senior Assistant to the President and Namal Uyana
Development Trust Treasurer Harsha Wijewardene and

An exhibition of winning photographs
of an inter-school photographic competition conducted by the
Devi Balika Vidyalaya Photographic Society will be held at
the Colombo Art Galley from April 28 to 30. Here staff of

Donations to libraries

Thirty Youth Clubs in the Kurunegala district are arranging to donate
library books at a cost of Rs 8 million to pirivenas, dhamma and primary
schools in the areas to mark the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. Fourteen
pirivenas, 22 dhamma schools and 40 primary schools have been
identified.
According to the National Youth Services Council, Kurunegala
University lecturers and students, businessmen and pensioners will
donate books.
Injured jumbo unattended

An elephant with gunshot injuries is lying unattended and in danger
of succumbing to injuries at Shavasthipura, North Central Province. The
injured leg is swollen due to infection. Villagers said that the
elephant had been limping for several days due to the injury and a
Wildlife Department officer had given an injection. However, despite
repeated requests no follow-up had been done. A villager S Edirisinghe
who was previously attacked by an elephant had taken pains to treat the
animal.
Naval Association AGM
The Sri Lanka Naval Association will conduct its 31st Annual General
Meeting on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at “Pradeepa” Reception Hall, Mutwal
Road, Modara, Colombo 15 at 10 am. All members are invited.
Refai celebration
The conclusion ceremony of the 134th Annual Refai celebration held in
memory of saint Sulthanul Aarifeen Seyedna Ahamadul Kabeerur Rifayee
(Kaddasallahu Sirrahul Azeez) will be held on April 30, 2011 at 10 a.m.
presided by Refai Thareeq Association of Sri Lanka Life Patron and
spiritual director, His Holiness Rifai Moulana Al Haj U.P. Seyyed
Muhammad Ashique Thangal.
‘Controversial Darusman report prejudicial

The Thalpitiya United Mutual Benefit Association at a meeting held at
the ‘Shantha Mandiraya’ Thalpitiya on Sunday unanimously adopted a
resolution condemning the Controversial Darusman report and requesting
UN to withdraw it saying it is malicious and prejudicial.
It was proposed by Association President Vincent Wijenayake and
seconded by Daya Gunasekara.
Inaugural PS meeting
Richmond WIJESEKERA-Bentota Group Corr
The inaugural meeting of the UPFA led Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha was
held at its auditorium recently presided by Chairman Gayan Sirimanna.
Out of 12 Pradeshiya Sabha members 11 members were present.
Bentota PS comprises eight UPFA members, three UNP members and one
JVP member.
New Year festival

A New Year festival for the disabled organized by the Anamaduwa
Divisional Secretariat will be held at the Sudampaya Grounds, Anamaduwa
on April 29.
Health exhibition
A health exhibition organized by the Padukka Medical Officer of
Health will be held at the MOH office on April 29 and 30.
A special attention will be focused on oral health.
Cultural festival
The “Erabadu Asiriya” New Year cultural festival will be held at the
Weeraketiya Rajapaksa stadium on April 30. |
