National Farming Week in Vavuniya

The Agriculture Ministry has decided to hold the National Farming Week-2011 in Vavunia from July 20-24, said Agriculture Ministry Additional Secretary Shantha Amitiyagoda.

A Committee Meeting was held under the patronage of Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana on April 25 to decide the programme.

This National Programme will be held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Centering around the Vavuniya Government Farm, the Ministry has drawn up a plan to implement this programme in the form of an exhibition.

The great enthusiasm shown in the agricultural field in the Northern and Eastern Provinces has enabled the Agriculture Ministry to introduce modern agriculture methods to farmers, he said.

Addressing the committee meeting Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana said that, the Ministry expects the support of every Agricultural Institutions under the Ministry to help make this programme a success.

Further the Minister said the Ministry hopes to obtain the support of the Private Agricultural Sector also.

The Additional Secretary said that the Sri Lanka Army will play a major role in making this programme a success.

The committee meeting was held with the participation of Divisional Secretary and Provincial Agriculture Secretary.
