Delegation Jordan bound to settle worker dispute

Foreign employment authorities will send a two-member delegation to Jordan to find an amicable settlement to a strike launched by a group of Sri Lankan migrant workers in Amman.

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, General Manager Harischandra Batagoda and another high ranking Ministry official would leave for Jordan today to hold discussions with officials in Amman in finding solutions to the workers' grievances, an SLBFE Spokesman said.

It is reported that around 3,000 expatriate workers from five garment factories had launched the strike, mainly over a salary dispute. According to the SLBFE there are nearly 1,350 Sri Lankans among them.
