Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Allahapperuma yesterday said the United
Nations established in 1945 at the end of World War II is completely
based on policy of promoting peace, stability and cooperation and few
individuals representing the UN is in the habit of disgracing the very
organization by violating the very principle on which it was founded.
He said that certain elements representing the United Nations are in
a futile effort to portray their personal assumption as the opinion of
such a vast organization which is entirely committed to promote
reconciliation between the communities and the nations.
Addressing a press conference at the Mahaweli Centre yesterday, the
Minister said the United Nations resorted to a course of action to
ensure the balance of power between the two Super Powers until the end
of 1980s.
He added that situation ended with the collapse of the USSR and its
allies in the mid of 1980s and the United Nations thereafter started
patronizing some schemes under the pressure of Super Powers to meddle
with the affairs of member states through various means.
The Minister said the subjects of conflict resolution and conflict
transformation taught in many western universities to ensure a win win
situation for the state and non state actors entangled in a conflict in
a country.
Minister Allahapperuma added that this theory nurtured by the western
allies collapsed with the eradication of terrorism in Sri Lanka by the
Security Forces. Sri Lanka pioneered in crushing a methodology adopted
by the western powers to meddle with the affairs of a sovereign state
through the theory of conflict resolution and conflict transformation.
He said that Sri Lanka is the one and only country which adhered to
the War on terror policy adopted by United States in the aftermath of
9,11 attack in Washington D.C and achieved results.
The Minister called on all nations fighting terrorism to support Sri
Lanka as these individuals will pose a threat to such countries through
this type of reports under the cover of UN emblem.
