Lightning claims 12 this month
January to April: 19 deaths:

Lightning killed 12 people this month while 19 deaths were reported
from January to April this year due to lightning. Thirty three deaths
due to lightning were reported last year, Meteorology Department
statistics revealed.
The Meteorology Department urged the public to take action to
minimize damages caused in lightning. Lightning is common in Sri Lanka
during April. This situation will change from May, a spokesman said.
The Meteorology Department also forecasted thunder showers in the
next two days. "
Inter-monsoon showers are common in the afternoons and evenings
during March to April.
Thunder showers develop in the country with the activation of the
Inter Tropical Conversion Zone, said Meteorology Department
Meteorologist in-charge D A Jayasinghearachchi.
This situation will be changed after May 15 with the beginning of the
South West monsoon, he said.
The Meteorology Department advised the public to avoid using
telephones, electrical items and iron material.
People should not seek shelter under isolated trees and walk in open
areas.
