Sabaragamuwa PC rejects controversial Darusman report
Wellasse BANDARA
The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council at a meeting held yesterday
unanimously adopted resolution rejecting the controversial Darusman
report saying it is biased and contained malirious allegations against
Sri Lanka.
It was proposed by Chief Minister Maheepala Herath and seconded
jointly by Provincial Minister G.M. Karunapala and UNP councillor A.
Wijesinghe.
The entire UNP and JVP groups also voted in favour of the resolution.
The Chief Minister tabling the motion said the LTTE had violated the
democratic and human rights of the entire Sri Lanka population of 20
million.
The LTTE had destroyed the lives of a large number of innocent people
ranging from toddlers to state leaders.
The heroic forces led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Defence
Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa acted to end that unfortunate period by
keeping their own lives at stake. What the international institutions
and countries should do is to appreciate that humanitarian operation and
help Sri Lanka in rebuilding the economy without trying to widen the
rift between various communities.
Opposition leader A.A. Wijetunge said members of the Sabaragamuwa
Provincial Council are always prepared to act with a sense of patriotism
and protect the country and its image leaving aside all petty
considerations.
