Credit Card usage up in February
Provisional data of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) shows that
the total number of activated credit cards in the country by end of
February this year stands at 784,230.

Out of this total amount, 59,511 are locally accepted and the balance
is globally accepted credit cards.
The provisional Central Bank data also shows that the total
outstanding balance of these credit cards end of February this year
amounted to Rs 32,483 million and out of this Rs 31,583 million is for
the globally accepted credit cards.
According to the Central Bank the total number of activated credit
cards end of January 2011 recorded 781,862 and out of this 722,593 are
globally accepted credit cards. The total outstanding balance end of
January 2011 was reported as Rs 31,977 million. Compared to the end of
January data and the February provisional data there is a slight
increase in the number of total activated credit cards in the country
end of February.
The Central Bank also said that the total number of activated cards
end of December 2010 was marked as 778,474 and the total outstanding
balance was Rs 31,616 million as at end of last year. |
