Arrested for assault at Shramadana

A man and his son were taken into custody by the Medawachchiya Police for causing injury to a person by attacking him with a katty. The incident occurred during a shramadana campaign at the Welewa temple on April 5. The victim had been admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching hospital with cut injuries to his head.

According to police the victim was an outsider while the suspects were locals from Welewa. An argument had developed between the parties during the shramadana campaign leading to the attack.

Further investigations are being conducted by a Police team headed by Sub Inspector R M P Seneviratne acting under the instructions of OIC Medawachchiya Dissanayake.
