Navy Avurudu Pola and New Year festival

A mega Avurudu Pola organized by the Seva Vanitha Unit of Sri Lanka Navy was held at SLNS Gemunu, Welisara on April 09 2011, while the New Year festival went on at the same premises.

Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Somatilake Dissanayake who was the chief guest was welcomed by SVU President Neluka Dissanayake. SL Navy Director Generals of SL Navy, senior officers in the area, members of the SVU and family members of Naval personnel attended the occasion.

A wide range of consumer goods, including ready-made garments, electrical items, toys, shoes, various fancy items, dry rations, dry fish, rice and vegetable/fruit were available at concessional rates at the Avurudu Pola.

Children and wives of Naval personnel participated in games and other recreational activities organized at the New Year festival. The winners were awarded with precious gifts. In the evening, the gathering were entertained to a musical show presented by the Navy Band and the Navy Cultural Troop.
