Greater Hambantota Development Plan underway

The Greater Hambantota Development Plan is being implemented in
112,000 hectares in Hambantota under a plan mooted by the Urban
Development Authority.
Among the development activities are the port administration complex,
airport, international convention hall, oil refinery, industrial estate
and dry zone botanical garden.
Currently, the construction of the administration complex has been
completed.
Forty two State and non-Government institutions in Hambantota will be
relocated here to convenience people.
The administration complex comprises five main components which are
the Municipal Council building, public library, depots, infrastructure
agencies and residential quarters for government officials.
It will also comprise all necessary facilities for the public
including supermarkets and restaurants. Hambantota priority projects
director architect Ananda Samarasinha said, "the area will be a WiFi
zone."
The administration complex concept design was done by Sri Lankan
architects led by him.
All engineering qualitative standards are adopted in setting up the
building.
He added that the consultancy was rendered by the Project Management
Unit of the Hambantota priority project which comprises all local
architects, engineers, technical officers, quantity surveyors and other
supporting staff.
